Buying Process
As Brokers we handle all aspects of the sale of a boat, we act as mediator between buyer and seller, with the objective of reaching a successful conclusion by smoothing the way for all parties.
- Find the perfect boat for you!
- Make and offer
- Deposit of 10% subject to survey
- Sale agreements
- Survey
- Discuss survey findings
- The seller will need to sign a Bill of Sale to transfer ownership. The buyer must insure and licence the boat with the correct Waterways Authority
We can provide guidance for insurance, finance and licence.
You will need to decide whether you wish to arrange for an independent survey (we would always recommend you do so) of the vessel. (Brokers do not carry out a detailed survey or warranty a boat). It is your responsibility to contract with and pay the costs of a surveyor to carry this out on your behalf. We can facilitate a list of local surveyors. However further details can be found at www.ybdsa.co.uk and www.iims.org.uk . The average cost of a full survey is approximately £300 – £600 dependent on the boat size and type. You will need to ask the surveyor to contact the marina to liaise regarding any lifting or dry-docking required to carry out the survey. The costs of this are again the purchasers’ responsibility and are approximately £200 – £600 dependent on the boat and facilities provided.
